The Basement

1–10 Players Live Actor

You're trapped in the dark dingy basement of an old house. There are no windows, only a few doors. You hear screaming coming from another room. This is what we like to call a funnel puzzle where you will find numerous items and clues throughout the room. These items all come together to orchestrate your escape.

SEARCH-HEAVY HORROR

What makes The Basement special?

A private, live-actor horror escape through a filthy underground maze of locked boxes, hidden compartments, and grimy discoveries. Split up to search, regroup to connect clues, ideal for larger groups who want intensity and teamwork, not haunted-house chaos.

NOT A PUZZLE ROOM

Non-linear and tactile: safes, trap doors, and scattered clues reward teams that communicate. A captive is trapped with you, and needs your group to escape as much as you need them.

Non-linear search in a grimy basement with a captive who needs your team.

Meet "The Captive"

No one knows how long they've been down there. Days blurred into weeks, weeks into something far worse. Taken by Edward and hidden beneath the house, the Captive has been left alone in the dark with only the sound of their own thoughts for company.

In The Basement, you find the Captive as someone who wants to get out of the room just as badly as you do. You must trust them, because they are the only one who truly understands how this experience works and how you may be able to escape. They are not there to scare you. They are there to help you.

The Basement, FAQ

That depends on what scares you personally. The Basement takes place in a dark, dirty, run-down basement inside Edward Tandy’s house, and it does feature a live performer. If darkness, close quarters, and gritty horror environments get under your skin, this room may feel especially intense.

That said, every room at our Los Angeles location has its own style of fear. The Basement is more claustrophobic, grimy, and unsettling than flashy or over-the-top.

The Basement is a “funnel-style” escape room, which means there are lots of items to find, connect, and piece together as the game progresses.

There are multiple puzzle tracks that can be followed at the same time, so separated groups can work on different things, or your entire team can stay together and solve as one group. Communication, organization, and paying attention to small details are especially important in this room.

The Basement is not a haunted house, and we do not rely on cheap jump scares. The live performer is part of the story and the environment, not just someone popping out to scream at you.

The actor may make physical contact during the experience, but never in an aggressive, unsafe, or inappropriate way. In the story, they want to get out of there just as badly as you do.

Normal, comfortable clothing is perfectly fine. We do not recommend high heels, but ultimately it is up to you.

There is some minor crawling that must be done by at least one group member, and your hands may get a little dirty because of the nature of the set. Other than that, no special clothing or gear is required.
