The Basement Unhinged
You've been separated from your group the moment you enter Edward Tandy's grungy basement, a deteriorating maze of crawl spaces, padded rooms, and tight passages between the walls. Ten years into Edward's future, he has grown tired of survivable games and built something rigged to break you. This mostly linear horror escape puts a live performer at the center of the story as your team cheats an unwinnable design. The Basement Unhinged is exclusive to Kansas City, with its own story arc, set pieces, and high-intensity live performance. It is not the Basement experience in Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
What makes The Basement Unhinged special?
A Kansas City exclusive: your group is separated from the start and pushed through a mostly linear, grungy basement story Edward designed to be unwinnable. Crawl tight spaces, follow hidden help, and work with a live performer to survive a game that was never meant to be fair.
Toby slips you an edge before you enter. Uncover the captive's past, wake them from a trance, and race toward an ending that forces a hard choice about who gets out.
Split up, crawl tight spaces, and beat a rigged game.
Meet "The Captive"
When you enter The Basement Unhinged, you will find another captive in the darkness, but not one who greets you as an ally. At first they seem vacant and unreachable, caught in a trance-like state as though Edward has reduced them to another piece of his cruel design.
Your team must uncover the truth of who they were and what was done to them if you hope to wake them back into the game. With Toby's secret help, you may be able to bring this person back long enough to matter. What you do with that chance, and whether you save them or save yourselves, is decided in the final moments of the story.

The Basement Unhinged, FAQ
That depends on what scares you personally. The Basement Unhinged takes place in a dark, dirty, run-down basement inside Edward Tandy’s house, and it does feature a live performer. If darkness, close quarters, and gritty horror environments get under your skin, this room may feel especially intense.
That said, every room at our Kansas City location has its own style of fear. The Basement Unhinged is more claustrophobic, grimy, and unsettling than flashy or over-the-top.
The Basement Unhinged is a “funnel-style” escape room, which means there are lots of items to find, connect, and piece together as the game progresses.
There are multiple puzzle tracks that can be followed at the same time, so separated groups can work on different things, or your entire team can stay together and solve as one group. Communication, organization, and paying attention to small details are especially important in this room.
The Basement Unhinged is not a haunted house, and we do not rely on cheap jump scares. The live performer is part of the story and the environment, not just someone popping out to scream at you.
The actor may make physical contact during the experience, but never in an aggressive, unsafe, or inappropriate way. In the story, they want to get out of there just as badly as you do.
Normal, comfortable clothing is perfectly fine. We do not recommend high heels, but ultimately it is up to you.
There is some minor crawling that must be done by at least one group member, and your hands may get a little dirty because of the nature of the set. Other than that, no special clothing or gear is required.
