The Aviary
You're on the SWAT team that has shown up at the Tandy house to save the day, but unfortunately Edward knew you were coming. A portion of your team will spend the majority of your game in complete darkness, while the others guide them toward victory.
What makes The Aviary special?
You are the SWAT team sent to stop Edward Tandy, but he knew you were coming. Half your group works in pitch darkness with tactile puzzles; the other half reads clues from a grim office and guides them over walkie-talkies.
One team has the answers. One team has the hands. Edward breaks into your radios. Stay calm, describe clearly, and solve together.
Half your team in darkness. The other half guides by radio.

The Aviary, FAQ
That depends on what scares you most. The Aviary does not rely on a live actor or traditional haunted-house style scares, but it does feature total darkness, sensory deprivation, and intense team communication.
Some players find darkness more unsettling than jump scares because they have to rely on sound, touch, and instructions from their teammates to move through the space and solve puzzles. If being unable to see your surroundings makes you nervous, this may be one of our more intense experiences.
Whether it’s the “scariest” room in Kansas City isn’t something we can stamp with one label, The Aviary is frightening in a very different way than The Basement Unhinged. The Aviary is built around complete darkness, disorientation, and communication under pressure. The Basement Unhinged, on the other hand, features a live performer and a more traditional horror environment. If you are more afraid of darkness and the unknown, The Aviary may feel scarier. If you are more afraid of live actor interaction, The Basement Unhinged may be the more intense choice.
Yes. Your team will be separated into two groups:
One group will enter a small lit office, while the rest of the team will enter a large pitch-black room. The office team communicates with the players in the dark room using walkie-talkies and headsets.
We recommend placing your most experienced escape room players in the lit office, since they will be responsible for guiding the rest of the team through parts of the experience.
Safety is a major part of how The Aviary is designed. Every player entering the dark area is required to wear a helmet that we provide. Since you are part of a SWAT team in the story, the helmet fits naturally into the experience.
Players are also instructed not to run at any time. We’ll guide you to keep your arms out in front of you, walk slowly, and communicate clearly so you can avoid walls, props, and other players.
No. The Aviary does not have a live actor.
If you are looking for a Kansas City escape room with a live performer, we recommend The Basement Unhinged, which does include live actor interaction.
